The Holy Spirit Invasion Into The Gentiles
The Holy Spirit Invasion Into The Gentiles
The Holy Spirit Invasion Into The Gentiles
In the past few episodes, we saw the Holy Spirit invasion upon the universe, upon Mary, upon Jesus, upon the human spirit, and the large-scale invasion on the Day of Pentecost.
Today, we look at the Holy Spirit invasion upon the gentiles. The Holy Spirit can break all obstacles and barriers.
In Acts 10, we read about a gentile named Cornelius. Acts 10 takes place approximately 13 years after Acts 2 (The Day of Pentecost). Jesus was sent only to the Jews, but as a sample. In the Book of Isaiah, we see that Jesus is a saviour for the whole world. As part of this, Jesus made a visit only to Samaria and preached there. But to the disciples, He instructed them to preach the gospel across the whole world.
Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
But, they stayed only in Jerusalem. In Acts 8, they had gone to Samaria, but nowhere else. In Acts 8:1, they were scattered because of persecution. Sometimes, certain events need to take place for scattering and expansion.
The Holy Spirit began the work of sending them to the gentiles, first through Peter. Peter was in Joppa when he saw a vision at night. He saw a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”
He learned: “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean”, and that he should go to the gentiles as well.
In Caesarea, there was a centurion called Cornelius. He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly.
In Luke 7:2, we see another centurion whose servant was about to die. He comes to Jesus and asks Jesus to speak a word of healing, without even coming to his house. Jesus commanded this and the servant was healed. Some scholars say that Cornelius was this centurion.
Cornelius hears from an angel to call for Peter. Here, angels don’t have the right to preach; the saved must preach to the unsaved.
Cornelius sends people to Joppa to invite Peter. After Peter saw this vision of the animals, he was ready to go anywhere and preach the gospel. He accepts the invite and goes to Cornelius’ house. This was the first time he went to a gentiles house!

Acts 10:24
The following day he arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.

Acts 10:24-25
25 As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. 26 But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.”
Peter entered a house full of people. He explained that it is against his law to visit a gentile, but that God showed him that he shouldn’t call anyone impure or unclean, and this is why he came without any objections. He asked them why they called him.
Cornelius explains the interaction he had with the angel three days ago.
Acts 10:30-32
30 Cornelius answered: “Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothesstood before me 31 and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor. 32 Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’
God knows your name and location!
Acts 10:33
33 So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.”
Then Peter preached for the first time to a gentile!
Acts 10:34-46
34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism. 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointedJesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
Acts 10:44-46
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues[b] and praising God.
Peter never prayed for a Holy Spirit invasion, but while he was preaching the good news, the Holy Spirit came down upon the gentiles. This is how each of us gentiles were saved!
