Perseverance
Perseverance
Focus Word: Perseverance
Verse for the day: Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Declaration: I press on and will not quit, my harvest is certain in God’s appointed season.
Without perseverance, we cannot gain anything.
Hebrews 10:36 “You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”
To do God’s will and receive His promise, we need to persevere. Even when we don’t see the result, we must keep obeying God.
Weariness is a test, not a sign to stop
We may face many disappointing situations that lead us to quitting.
Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
If you stay close to Him and wait on the Lord, He will renew your strength to persevere.
2 Corinthians 4:16 “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”
What is Paul writing about here? Out could be about his long travels which are detailed in the Bible. He was always on the move. So even though his body is tired, he writes that his heart and spirit is still renewed day by day. God has provided this for each of us.
Smith Wigglesworth always said that his spirit man is much stronger than his flesh and body.
God allows weariness so we learn to draw strength from Him.
Philippians 4:13 In a marathon, it may not be the fastest person who wind, but the one who refuses to quit. Life is not a sprint, it is a marathon.
2. Perseverance produces spiritual maturity
James 1:2-4 “2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a]whenever you face trials of many kinds,3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
Troubles build us and mold us. It makes us mature and complete; not lacking anything.
Delay develops depth. Delay is not denial.
When we compare our lives to others, it can look like some things in our lives are so delayed. But it is never those things that prepare us for eternity. When we walk according to God's pace, he builds us up inside, while pausing things on the outside.
3. Perseverance brings God’s reward
Revelation 2:10 Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.
2 Timothy 4:7,8 “7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
4.Perseverance defeats the enemy
Ephesians 6:10-18 tells us to put on the armour of God and stay rooted in faith.
“18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
Standing in faith when nothing happens is spiritual warfare. The enemy cannot defeat a believer who refuses to quit.
5. Perseverance leads to harvest
Psalm 126:5,6 Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.6 Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.
If we persevere without quitting, the harvest is already on the way; do not give up.
