Bible verse: Psalm 23: 5 - You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Focus: ANOINTING
Declaration:
Fresh oil is poured over me today.
I operate in supernatural grace and power.
What is anointing? Is it only for a few - preachers, pastors, etc.? No, it is for everyone who desires it. There are different levels of anointing; some receive it in certain areas and in certain levels. Simply put, anointing is ‘divine enablement’. That which we struggle to do physically or with human strength, God empowers us to complete it through His anointing very easily. When the power of God comes upon us, we are able to complete easily that which we were struggling with earlier. God releases fresh oil to function better.
Without anointing we will be dry and there will be great strain. For example, in a huge machine if there is absence of a lubricant, it does not function properly. There would be a grinding sound, parts would get damaged and ultimately the machine would stall. In our day to day lives, we need the presence and anointing of the Holy Spirit: or else, there would be great struggle and hardship to complete our work.
This year we need to live in the supernatural grace of God - His grace needs to flow all over that concerns us. Whatever we are struggling with would be completed with ease. In our focus verse for today, David writes this psalm while shepherding his flock. But he looks to his God as the Shepherd and himself as the sheep.
In the early days, oil was used as a healing liniment to treat wounds and cuts. Heavy-scented oil was applied on the coat of the sheep to prevent blood-sucking insects from getting into their thick coats. This oil was a great protection for the sheep. Oil was also applied on the face and head of the sheep to refresh them.
This verse reveals a God who heals the wounded. This is a healing anointing imparted by God to His hurting children. He can apply this oil and heal your inner wounds. Certain wounds may take time to heal and even fester under the skin. Our God can pour His anointing oil over the wound and heal us completely….and He will do it for us.
Anointing protects that which is vulnerable. If you are encountering works of the evil one, when the new oil is applied over you, nothing can harm you. As the strong scent of the oil protects the sheep from the insects, so also the aroma of the anointing, the sweet scent of God, protects you from the works of the evil one.
This anointing also empowers that which has grown cold. God has called you for His works and He will help you to minister accordingly. Anointing is God’s personal touch upon a person’s life. God imparts anointing to each person specifically. Going back to David, he was the eighth athe youngest among his brothers. He was not given much standing, but God chose this rejected person to anoint him to become the future king of Israel.
I speak to those reading this message; you may have been rejected, but God’s anointing and empowerment is coming upon you. What you could not do naturally, God is doing supernaturally. What area of life drained you before now flows with grace. What was heavy and tedious, now becomes light. Oil replaces strain; we enjoy a supernatural life through this. Our yoke becomes light.
God’s anointing heals emotional wounds. Guards against spiritual attacks. Restores joy and strength. Refreshes the weary. In this year, God is not ignoring your wounds, He is anointing your wounds and healing them. Health and healing is your inheritance. Anointing causes overflow, not just survival. David says, “My cup overflows.” Anointing is not ‘just enough’, it causes ‘overflow’. Overflow also means grace beyond your capacity, provision beyond your calculation, strength beyond your limitation. In this year God is shifting His children from ‘survival mode’ to an ‘overflow mode’.
Fresh oil is needed for every new season - new ministry, new times, new works, new plans to bring to completion. Old oil cannot sustain new assignments. God releases new oil for fresh assignments, new responsibilities, new battles, new levels of fruitfulness. God wants to release a fresh anointing into your life today - one that is required to be fruitful this year.
