The Joy of the Lord: Rejoicing in Worship
We’ve been looking into the elements of corporate worship, of which we covered
1. Confession of Sins - many times we’re ignorant that what we do is a sin before God, and if we were to confess each sin, it would be unending. However, we need to confess at least the sins that we remember and those of which we are guilty.
1 John 1:7-9 - But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
2. Proclaiming the Word through public reading and preaching - In the earlier days, before the printing technology came into the scene, everyone didn’t have a copy of the Bible. And therefore, one would stand up and read aloud from the Scripture and explain it to all who had gathered.
3. Prayer - an inevitable part of worship.
4. Praise
5. Thanksgiving - thanksgiving actually is an access card to open heaven.
Psalm 100:4,5 - Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Revelation 11:15-17 -The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.” And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying: “We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign.
6. Rejoicing in the Lord - there is ample room for the expression of our emotion and feelings before God.
Psalm 95:1 - Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
