God Is Considerate With You: Part 3
God is considerate with us because He knows we are weak and have a lot of shortcomings.
Psalms 103:13 ‘As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;’
Psalms 103:14 ‘for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.’
Psalms 78:39 ‘He remembered that they were but flesh, a passing breeze that does not return.’
These verses reflect on God’s consideration to us who are just dust.
Genesis 47:9 And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty. My years have been few and difficult, and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of my fathers.”
Jacob who went through a lot of struggles in his life and was later blessed had to say this about his life.
Job 7:9 As a cloud vanishes and is gone, so one who goes down to the grave does not return.
Life is like a cloud. One day, in an instant people’s life on earth come to an end. Human life is like a loan taken from God’s time bank.
Psalms 73:20 They are like a dream when one awakes; when you arise, Lord, you will despise them as fantasies.
The Psalmist refers to life as a dream. A man has many dreams when they sleep but most of them are forgotten. A dream is short and mostly goes into oblivion. A man’s life is like that. It is short and forgotten. But God doesn’t forget our short lives. He remembers us.
Psalms 144:3 LORD, what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them? They are like a breath; their days are like a fleeting shadow
Man is just a breath. It is said that once Billy Graham, a great man of God spoke about Jesus to one of the biggest Hollywood stars of that time. But she rejected it point blank. Within a week she was found dead in her bed. God gave her an opportunity. If she had accepted Jesus, she might not have met with such a horrible end. Our life on earth is only a breath.
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.
We must be so careful in making right decisions in our life as our life is so short. When God gives us opportunities, we must use it well and not reject it.
In Luke 12. 13-21, Jesus speaks about the parable of a rich man who had plans to tear down his existing barns and build bigger ones to store his surplus grain which would provide for his future. He intended to take life easy; eat, drink and be merry. But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
God wants our heart and not our money. David had committed many sins in his lifetime but he was a man after God’s own heart. He loved God with all his heart and was devoted to God. He worshipped God without shame. So God stood for him and supported him in spite of his shortcomings.
Psalm 144.4 They are like a breath; their days are like a fleeting shadow
1 Chronicles 29:15 We are foreigners and strangers in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.
This is a lament of a man’s life on earth. A shadow is a very poor image of an object and man’s life is just like that. We cannot recognize a man by his shadow. It can be long or short or look different from the real one.
The builder of Titanic, Thomas Andrews was asked by reporters about by its safety. His answer was that not even God can sink it. But in its maiden voyage 517 people died including the builder.
God expects humility from man.
Micah 6.8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God
Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Our Sovereign God came to earth and lived as the most humble man. We need God’s grace to live a humble life.
Job 14. 1,2 Mortals, born of woman, are of few days and full of trouble. They spring up like flowers and wither away; like fleeting shadows, they do not endure.
Isaiah 40.6-8 A voice says, “Cry out.” And I said, “What shall I cry?” “All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.
In both these verses, we see man’s life to be like grass and flowers that wither away.
But how does God see man ?
Psalm 8.4,5 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honour.
In Hebrews 4.14-16, we read that Jesus came down to earth and identified with us.
He remembers us and is considerate to us. He guides us and blesses us.
