Value God’s Voice
This week we are focusing on God’s voice and the importance of hearing His voice in our lives! In the Garden of Eden, after God created man, the first voice they heard was that of God. There were different voices also which could be heard; that of the Devil, of each other, and their own inner voice. Back then and even today, there are approximately 4 voices that we hear.
Mark 4:24 says “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.
Romans 10:17 says Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
The Word of God has 2 expressions; the written and the spoken. It's the Rhema word that brings faith, not Logos word. We need to listen to the preachings of the Word of God, not only read it.
Genesis 3:1,6,9,11
Verse 1: Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
Verse 6: When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
Verse 9: But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
Verse 11: And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
We see the 4 voices here in this passage. Adam heard the voice of God. Eve also heard the voice of God but failed to obey it, but obeyed the voice of Satan. The voice of man was obeyed when Adam listened and followed the words of Eve. And additionally, the inner voice urging one to do something was also followed by them. They didn’t give importance to the voice of God like they were supposed to and this one thing is what changed their future forever! Whatever voice you hear today, is your future!
Today’s main focus is on the voice of God. We can call this as the Spirit’s voice as well.
The 4 voices are;
When Jesus came to the world, he also heard voices. Even before his ministry started, he heard the voice of God in his life. Similarly, in your life as well, you might not have done any ministry yet, or done any miracles but God calls us His beloved children. This is the voice of God that Jesus heard after his baptism. Even if no one else is pleased with you, God is pleased with you!
In this baptism context, another voice was heard. It was that of the testimony of John the Baptist. The voice of John the Baptist was to increase his self-worth. God can speak to us through others as well. He uses other people to give us confirmations at times. When God speaks to us and gives us confirmations, this increases our self-worth. God spoke to Jesus as a public announcement. Always listen to the voice of the spirit-filled ministers. Never give your ear to criticisms. Creative criticism is good but criticism that is there to tarnish our name and reputation is something we need not give heed to. We need to be open to corrections but we should always be listening to the voice of God.
John 10:27 says My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
God knows each of us personally!
What God says about you is you!
Self-realisation solves most of your problems. Not the name tag that others give you.
What you say about yourself is what you are going to become (refer Luke 4:18-21 for self-declaration and self-proclamation).
When Jesus came, everything was written in the scrolls. Just like that it is written for us as well. We should be able to discern the voice of God in our lives and give His voice the ultimate importance.
Our confession is the expression of God's voice that we receive!
