Never Sit On Two Chairs
We should all have a vision and goal for our life. This should go beyond the desires of having a family or creating an income source. God has a certain purpose for each and every person that He has created.
We are all born as normal babies, it is during the duration of our life that we grow to create a mark in the world; and this is up to us and the vision we have for our life.
The story of Naman receiving a healing in his eyesight after being led by a young servant girl in the Old Testament has touched so many people in the world, even to this day.
Philippians 3:13-14
13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Those who have a vision must be focused. What was Paul’s focus?
Paul, who was a great apostle who had established many churches, never considered that he achieved many things yet. But the one thing he does, is that he forgets the past and looks forward. We cannot move forward until we let go of and forget the past hurts, wounds etc. It is equivalent of trying to run forward while being tied or chained to a pole.
Paul had a very violent and dark past where he persecuted and killed many Christians. He could have lived a life of guilt and shame. Still, he was able to let go and forget his past and look forward. If he held onto the guilt of his past, it would have hindered his ministry.
Whatever has happened to you in the past, however tough it has been, you need to forget it. Jesus has forgiven your sins and the sins of those who have wronged you. So we must not hold onto the past mistakes that we or others have made. We need to strain towards what is ahead.
Paul’s journey was heaven-ward. He looked at God’s plan for him and he looked to the prize in heaven. Paul wrote “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus”
Even our destination is up there- heaven.
Colossians 3:1
Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Many people live in their past: regrets and remorse. We need to completely lose ourselves in the task that God has given us- such that the world around us disappears.
We also need to focus on the positives rather than the negatives- of ourselves, of life, and of any situation. All of us have both positives and negatives.
Instead of murmuring about the things that go wrong, if we are thankful for what God has provided, we will see Him provide what we don’t have. If we are faithful in little things, God will give us more.
If you try to sit on two chairs, you will fall between them. Don’t sit on two chairs- choose one.
We must adopt Paul’s attitude of forgetting the past and press on towards the goal.
