Tired Of Running? Hebrews Chapter 10: Part 1

Hebrews 10. 1-4 The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
The Law is only a shadow, not a reality.
Now the good things or reality has come.
The law can never perfect the worshipers.
In the Law, they offered sacrifices repeatedly and endlessly: It gives no solution but it is still done.
If the law could have made the people perfect, they could have stopped the sacrifices.
If they had been cleansed properly, they would not have felt guilty for their sins again.
All their sacrifices are an annual reminder that they are sinners again.
It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
Colossians 2.16-17 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ
Many people in the Old Testament like Abel, enoch, Noah, Moses etc were a shadow of the reality that was to come. A shadow can never take the place of reality. A shadow has no value. If we get the reality, it is easy to understand the shadow.
If the Sun is in the front, then the shadow is behind. Likewise, if the Sun is behind , our shadow will be in the front. In the Old testament, the Sun was behind them, so they could see only the shadow. Now the Sun Of Righteousness has gone in front of us, so it is easy to understand the shadow which is behind us. We should not hunt for the shadow instead we must catch the Truth which is the New Covenant.
Reasons why the Law came first:
It serves as a mirror. (James 1. 25) . The Law revealed the weaknesses and shortcomings of man as mirrors would show all the blemishes. This made mankind realise that we are all sinners.
The Law is a temporary guardian and guarded mankind especially the Jews from sins till Christ came. The Law revealed the sins and the punishments they received created fear to stop them from doing it again. Every kingdom has Law and Order which guards them from sinning.
It is a Tutor. It teaches us that a Saviour is necessary to help us overcome sins. The law or any religion is like a treadmill. However much you observe the laws and rituals it won’t take you anywhere just as running many kilometers on the treadmill will not get you to a different place. God has no membership in any religion including christian religion. Christianity is a way to eternal life. It is not possible to change the colour of coal by washing it. Only fire can change it. Similarly religious rites and rituals will not change a person but God’s fire can. Animal sacrifices could only cover man’s sins but the one time sacrifice of Jesus took away our sins for ever.
