Do You Want To Be Healed & Healthy?
We are continuing the series on ‘The seven areas of success in life’. We covered the first two, spiritual growth and mental growth. Today we will cover health and wellness.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 says, ‘May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.’
Man is a tripartite being; his spirit, soul and body. The salvation of these three parts of a being is saved in three different ways. When we are saved, we become a new creation. New birth is the salvation of the spirit. When we become a new creation in Christ, this renewal happens through the spirit. The transformation of the mind is the salvation of the soul. Resurrection is the salvation of the body. When we are in this world, it is the spirit and soul that goes through the sanctification process and becomes a new creation in Christ. The Bible affirms that our physical well being matters to God and he wants us to live strong, balanced and fulfilled lives. It is very evident in the Bible that our God cares for our physical body, which is why he constantly reaffirms that he will ‘heal us’.
Jeremiah 31:6 says, 'Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.’
Our God gives us these promises throughout the Bible and our health and wellness is very important to him.
Caring for your health is a spiritual act. Your body is the Lord's dwelling place. Our body is the temple of God.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, ‘19 Do you not know that your bodies are temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.’
Our body and spirit are connected, our body and God are also connected. If I don’t take care of my body, it means I don’t honour the temple of God's dwelling. Caring for our health is therefore a spiritual act. When we focus solely on our spirit and not our body, we are defying God by not taking care of the temple of his dwelling.
1 Corinthians 3:16 says, ‘Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?’
God desires that our physical health and lives match the prosperity of our souls. These aspects are very much interlinked.
3 John 1:2 says, ‘Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.’
There are four kinds of prosperity that John prays for. He prays that we prosper in all things, including health just like how our soul prospers. John touches upon four things here which are: spirit, soul, body and material things of the world. Believe that you will succeed and see prosperity in all these four aspects this year.
God's word brings healing and vitality when embraced fully. We often read God's word whenever we have the time. But beyond reading, God's word brings healing and health when embraced deeply.
Proverbs 4:20-22 says, ‘20 My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. 21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.’
As you read in the verses above, the word of God must be entrenched within you, it should pierce your heart and you must carry it with you at all times, for it brings health to those who find them. God's words are very powerful and it should live within us.
Reverence to God and wise living, contribute to physical well-being.
Proverbs 3:7-8 says, ‘7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil 8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.’
As human beings we sometimes assume that our decisions and point of views are always right. Never forget that our God is all knowing and he is the God of all ages. Always lean on his guidance and understanding and not yours alone. When God is with us, we keep ourselves away from the sinful ways of the world, which will bring health to our body and nourishment to our bones.
God offers both physical and spiritual healing as part of his covenant blessings. We are a covenant generation.
Psalm 103:2-3 says, ‘2 Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— 3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,’
Can you imagine our lives if God hadn’t promised us this verse above? Our God forgives all our sins and heals all our diseases. Our God cares so deeply about our health and well-being. Our God sends his word and heals us.
God reveals himself as Jehovah Rapha, our healer. Our health is part of his nature and promise. God is mighty and powerful and health is part of a promise he has given us.
Exodus 15:26 says, ‘He said, “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.”’
Health is a promise that our God has given us. You may not be holding onto the best news right now, but believe that our Lord died for us and forgave us and healed all our diseases. Our God has promised us a good, healthy life.
