Your Peace Will Flow Like A River
Today we will be continuing with the new series that looks at the “7 areas of success in life”. This is a series that will bring about a paradigm shift in your life. As a part of this series, we are looking at the 7 different areas which we have to pay attention to be successful.
Now success in the eyes of the world is very different from what God defines as success. In the world, if you are a wealthy businessman, a renowned doctor, an award-winning athlete or a movie star, you will be seen as a successful individual.
But does that make you a successful person in God’s eyes? That is why we are looking at the 7 areas of success in a person’s life according to God’s terms.
We have already gone through the first area of success, Spiritual Growth. In Luke 1:80 and Luke 2:52, we see how two boys grew up in the Lord. First verse shows us how John the Baptist grew up for 30 years and the second verse shows us how Jesus Christ grew up 30 years. Both of them were history makers; One was preparing the way and the other was the Way. Through their examples we were able to learn about spiritual growth. Now, we are looking at Mental Growth.
Irrespective of the age, we see a lot of people, especially grown-up adults, living without growing up mature mentally.A lot of problems stem from people living in a mentally immature state. They face problems in life and problems in their relationships. We have already dwelt on how a mentally strong person has no fear, and how they are steadfast, strong and brave. Continuing on, we will be looking at some thoughts and scriptures from the Bible related to mental growth.
1. God provides supernatural peace that protects the mind and heart
Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (NIV)
As the above verse states, we should not be anxious or worried about anything. But in everything and every situation we should let God know of our wants through thanksgiving. The result of doing this is having the peace of God, that goes beyond everything we can imagine, guarding our hearts and our minds. It is this peace that gives us mental stability and gives our life the much-needed equilibrium.
We see a lot of renowned people take their own lives after reaching a certain point in their lives. These are people with a lot of fan following and people looking up to them. They have gained a lot of riches in this world but they have no peace or mental stability in their lives. People can become masters of a certain aspect of their life but lose in all others due to lack of mental stability and fortitude. This is why it is important to be successful in all 7 aspects of life that we are looking at.
2. Inner transformation starts with mental renewal and leads to a new godly identity
Our inner man is transformed through the renewal of our mind and this leads to a new godly identity in Christ.
Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will. (NIV)
Ephesians 4:22-24 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. (NIV)
The above verses show us how important it is to renew our minds. It is the renewal of our minds and attitudes that leads to our transformation. This renewal should be happening daily in our lives and not once in a while when we feel like it.
3. God restores and heals the soul. He is our shepherd when it comes to emotional and mental renewal
God can renew and restore our minds. Our minds can have wounds, unwanted thoughts or any other issues but God can completely heal that. No matter how much you do in life or who you are, sometimes there may be undealt thought patterns in your mind that will be affecting every other area of your life but God can change that.
Psalm 23:3 He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. (NIV)
As the above verse from Psalm 23 says, God is the one who refreshes our soul. This means that He is the one that renews our mind. So, the Lord is our Shepherd when it comes to our emotional and mental renewal. In other words, when you face difficulties and heartbreaking moments in life that hurt you and leave a scar, the Lord, who is your shepherd, will be able to heal your mind and restore your soul so that your life is renewed.
4. Every day is a fresh start. God’s mercy brings hope and healing to the weary mind
Every day is a new start that God is giving you.
Lamentations 3:22-23 Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (NIV)
God’s mercy and grace never end nor fail in our lives. No matter what happened the previous day, each new day is a new beginning that God gives us. A fresh start with the compassions of God.
5. Wholesome success includes wellness in the mind
Success for every aspect of our lives begins from our mind.
3 John 1:2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. (NIV)
6. Spiritually focused mind stays anchored and clear amidst life’s chaos
In our lives, we will definitely have chaos but if our minds are spiritually focused on God, it will be anchored on Him through trying times.
Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (NIV)
We can be easily caught up with our day-to-day activities, lives and worries but starting today, let us make the effort to turn our eyes towards the throne room of God where Jesus is and set our thoughts on Him. This will not only change our lives but also bring peace in our lives. There is no anxiety, fear, poverty or war in heaven. So, set your mind on things above.
7. Jesus offers rest and restoration for those who are mentally, physically and emotionally weary
One of the main components that helps us in renewing our mind is having peace and rest. When we are hurt or in broken relationships, we will not have peace. This is why Jesus says in Matthew 11:28 to go to Him if we are weary and burdened and He will give us rest.
Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (NIV)
8. God’s healing touches the core of your heart
Psalms 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. (NIV)
God can heal and restore the brokenhearted no matter how deep the wound is or how shattered the heart is.
9. God provides for our well-being and sustains our energy or vitality
Isaiah 58:11 The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
God can turn us into a well-watered garden and a spring whose waters never fail.
God can bring peace in your life and He can restore your soul. Praise God!
