God Speaks Through Human Beings
One word from God can transform a life. For example when Peter saw Jesus walk over the water, he had a desire to do the same. Knowing this, Jesus said to him “come”. Jesus' words are super powerful. To the child who died he said “Talitha koum” and the child got up and began to walk.
There will come a time when the dead will rise from the graves, just from the sound of the Lord. We use words to communicate, but God used words to create things before it was used to communicate. God's words have creative power.
God can speak to us through several ways. In this series we are focusing on twelve ways in which God can speak to us. We have covered the first six, now we will move onto the rest.
God speaks through,
1. Our Conscience
2. His Word
3. Himself, directly to us
4. The Holy Spirit
5. Supernatural Manifestation
6. His Angels
Our God is a talking God and he can speak to us through several ways. While God can speak to us, we should be willing listeners to his voice. Most of the time, we lose out on the revelations that God gives us, because we are unwilling listeners. We should develop our ability to listen.
7. God speaks through human beings.
In the book of Peter, it is revealed that it is the Spirit who dwelled in the disciples and prophets spoke through them.
Hebrews 1:1-2 says, ‘1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.’
God raised up a lot of prophets in the olden days, to speak to the Israelites. It is through these prophets that God conveyed his Word and his messages. Several prophets have contributed to the Bible such as Ezekiel, Daniel, Zechariah, all the way till Malachi. This shows how God clearly speaks through human beings. John the Baptist could be considered as probably the last prophet.
However there are still other powerful prophets in the New Testament.
Acts 11: 27-30 says, ‘27 During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. 28 One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.) 29 The disciples, as each one was able, decided to provide help for the brothers and sisters living in Judea. 30 This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.’
Jerusalem is the core community of Christians, considered as the Holy city. Antioch was a developed city and an urban city of that time. So prophets who were raised in Jerusalem traveled to Antioch to share the gospel. One of them named Agabus predicted by the Spirit that a great famine would come upon the entire Roman world. This was prophesied by Agabus during the reign of King Claudius. Agabus’s prophecy came to life. The believers in Jerusalem decided to pool in whatever they could to help the people in Judea. This was entrusted to Barnabas and Saul. Note that, we are still in Chapter 11 of Acts. Both Saul and Barnabas, haven’t started their apostolic endeavors yet.
One of the learning’s here is that no one becomes a preacher or a pastor overnight, everyone will go through the process of moulding and may need to do mundane tasks while serving the Kingdom of God. Even though Saul's encounter with God was a life changing moment and a supernatural incident, because of Saul’s history no one let him into their fellowship. It was Barnabas that slowly groomed him in ministry and mentored him.
God speaks through people even today. God speaks through pastors and ministers to the people. The daily or weekly sermons presented by pastors have God's voice in it. God can speak through people. It is not restricted to just your pastors and ministers. He can speak through believers and unbelievers as well.
God is a sovereign God and all the people in this world are his. Sometimes when two people talk, God speaks through each in that conversation. During the time of Gideon, as he was preparing for war, two guards saw a dream and they discussed the dream with each other. Gideon overhead them saying that the war is going to be won by Gideon. God used even our enemies to talk to us.
