Self Voice

This week we have been focusing on discerning the voice of God in our lives. We also looked into the different types of voice we hear in our life; it can be God, the devil, human voice, or self voice. Today we are going to look into the inner voice we hear which can also be called the self voice. 

We all have our own voice! We see David talking to himself in the Bible. Similarly, we can speak to ourselves, and we can hear ourselves. We have an opinion about ourselves which is our self-worth. 
The devil’s voice cannot break you unless you permit it. The human voice cannot break you unless you permit it. God’s voice will never break you, it will only build you. It has no breaking effect, and will never lead to your own destruction. But your own voice, if it is wrong, will break you. The reason behind it is because we believe our own voice more than any other voice. 

Genesis 3:9-11 says (9) But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” (10) He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” (11) And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

The thought of being naked came inside Adam and Eve. This was their self voice. This happened because they ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. This is perhaps the time when conscience came into man. Before that time, there was no knowledge of the good and evil and its differences. Only good had existed for them. Eve was tempted into thinking that she can be like God if she eats the fruit, and she took the bait toward a life of independence and freedom. And at that time, if they had eaten from the Tree of Life, they would have had to live a life in the repercussions of their actions. God prevented them from eating from the Tree of Life. 

It is better to die than to live in the fallen body forever!

The devil tempted telling them they would be like God if they eat the forbidden fruit, but what was forgotten was that they were already like God. Being made in God’s image and likeness, they were more like God than they realised and before they ate the fruit! This was a betrayal from the devil’s side. 

Romans 2:14-16 says (14) (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. (15) They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) (16) This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

1 Timothy 1:19 says holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.

Rejection of conscience can cause a shipwreck to your faith!
