Breaking And Building
Isaiah 42:3
A bruised reed he will not break, and a smouldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice
The anointing on Jesus doesn’t quench a smouldering wick, a bruised reed He will not break.
In the Old Testament, the priests would trim the wick, pour oil into the lamps and keep the lamps burning. It was their job to keep the lamp burning at all times in the tabernacle.
We read about The Holy Spirit, He is before the throne of God as the seven spirits of God, the seven lampstands. The Holy Spirit is like a lamp that is constantly burning and emitting light.
The same Holy Spirit dwells inside us and like Him we are called to burn bright and radiate His light.
A fragrant oil when burnt, along with light it also gives out a sweet aroma. This is what the Holy Spirit does through us, He makes us the light and the fragrance of Christ for the people around us. When we do the ministry of Jesus in the fullness of the Holy Spirit, the people in darkness will see a great light.
When people went to Jesus, they were healed, those without hope received new hope, those in bondage were delivered. The Holy Spirit or the plans of God have not changed but are still the same as they were in the times of old. There is no change with God.
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
It is the enemy who takes our song away. God instructed the Israelites to celebrate the feast of Tabernacles. It is for them a time of singing and rejoicing. Today also God wishes the same for us, that we sing for joy.
Psalm 85:6
Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?
The times when the Israelites were captured and taken away, they couldn’t celebrate the festivals or sing, but would sit and weep and mourn in sackcloth and ashes. But the Lord would deliver them and restore their song to them.
Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
When Apostle Paul wrote this, he was in prison, the waste and smell of the city passing through his prison cell. A cell in which a man cannot stand upright, but has to stay bent over, locked in chains. Apostle Paul rejoiced in such a situation. Not only did he rejoice but he brought down the prison walls with his praise and baptised the jailer.
When you sing, strongholds will break, the foundations of the prison will shake. When you rejoice in the Lord, every bondage, every chain, every yoke will break and fall off, the foundations of the prison will be shattered with all its pillars and walls until there is no prison left at all for the enemy to hold you in.
Nehemiah 8:10
the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Even while we live in this world, the Lord is our strength. So don’t ever stop singing.
Jeremiah 1:10
See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”
The principle of breaking and building. God called Jeremiah to be a prophet to the nations but he responded by saying he is young and does not know how to speak. But God appoints him to build and break. To build some things and to break some things.
Even in us, some things need to break. When all that is from the enemy breaks, God starts building in us.
After the wall of Jericho was torn down and the Israelites entered the land of Canaan, they built the Jerusalem Wall. Only if certain things in our life break, can new things be built in a godly way. The principle of breaking and building.
John 15:14
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last
We did not choose God; He chose us. Let us always rejoice in the Lord and praise Him with a song
