Battles and Wars
We have heard of several wars and sometimes they go on for days, months or maybe even years. Battles however are many but there is only one war. They are strikes/ encounters that take place within a war. There was a six day war between Israel and Syria in the sixties. In recent times we’ve heard of wars between Russia and Ukraine which has not got over yet. In a war, one side of the team wins. However in a battle, even if one side wins that doesn’t assure their victory in the war. This is true the other way around as well, one side of a battalion might lose the battle but that does not mean that they will lose the war.
Even in our lives, we might lose the little battles in our lives, but that does not mean that we’ve lost the war. Jesus has already won the war. Because we are already victorious in Christ and in him lies our victory that has already been established. We are not fighting for victory, but fighting from victory. Jesus fought for us and has secured victory. In Ephesians 6:12 We read that there are four categories against whom we war. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
Luke 10:21 says, ‘At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.’
In Greek, the verse above is translated to mean that he leaped with joy in the spirit and turned round and round in a dancing mode. He was filled with the Holy Spirit and said these words, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.’
It’s important that we understand that the things of God are not revealed to the scholars and the learned of the world, but to the meek, the innocent and the children. God does not reveal his word to those who think ‘they know everything’ or the ‘know it all’s’ of the world. Many people are often too puffed up in their knowledge and the things they know that they reject the Word/God. God reveals his ways to those who are innocent, who are receptive and someone with a child-like character/faith.
Luke 10:18-19 says, ‘18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.’
The enemy that is being referred to here is Lucifer/ Satan/ the devil. Snakes and scorpions are metaphors for the evil and satanic spirits. Our God has bestowed upon us the power to kill and trample over these spirits. God has veiled all this from bright and the best of the world and revealed the truth of his Word to those who are hungry for his Word. The Word is revealed to the children and the verses above also say nothing will harm you.
God has given his children spiritual wisdom and discernment to know Satan and recognise his different forms.
Matthew 5:3 says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 6:8 says, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
The Kingdom of heaven is for those who are pure in heart who are like children. The Word is for those who are like children only.
Luke 18:16 says, ‘But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’
This means God will reveal his workings to those who are uneducated or unqualified by the standards of society as opposed to those who are not humble in spirit and believe they know everything.
As Luke 10:19 says, ‘I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.’
God has not given Satan the authority to hurt you, rather he has given you the authority to trample over his head. Any authority that Satan has in this world, is given by you and you alone. So do not fall prey into Satan's woeful tactics. We can tell Satan boldly to get out and get lost.
Luke 10:20 says, ‘However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”’
While God has given you the authority to trample Satan under your feet, know that it’s not that fact that you must rejoice in, rather the fact that your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life in heaven. Anyone whose name is not written in the Book of life, will be pushed into burning hell and will perish. Those whose names are written in the Book Of Life will not be thrown into fire but receive eternal/ everlasting life in Heaven.
John 3:16 says, ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’
Satan is a fallen angel and in that fall he also wanted to bring down mankind. But it is from this that God saved us at the Cross of Calvary.
Some of you may have fallen into sin, you may have not fully obeyed the Word in every respect and you may have lost a few battles along the way. But know that you have ultimately already WON THE WAR, through Jesus’s sacrifice at the Cross of Calvary. Know that the ultimate victory is already WON. If you have fallen and lost a few battles, don’t fall prey to disappointment and put your armour down, but fight the battles as you are already victorious in Jesus.
