How to Develop Radical Faith - Part 1
We know what faith means. But what is radical faith? It is an uncommon faith. Ordinary faith will give you ordinary results but if you have extraordinary faith, it will give you extraordinary results. Most believers have ordinary faith but they don’t see the results of their faith in their life. Radical faith or uncommon faith brings God’s standard of life in our lives.
In the Old Testament, we see many people who had uncommon faith. Noah, though he had never seen rain in his life, believed God and built the Ark. Faith without action is dead faith. Many during Noah’s time laughed at him but he believed God and did what he was told.
There is a story of a church who prayed for rain to come over their city. Only one little girl took her umbrella with her because she believed that God would answer their prayers and give them rain. Similarly, we too must act believing that we will receive.
What is faith?
Hebrews 11.1 defines faith as “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Hebrews 11.6
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
Jeremiah 29.13
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
It is those who diligently and wholeheartedly seek God who will find Him and are rewarded by God
Hebrews 11 gives us a list of faith heroes. It writes about those who died but never lost their faith. How do we develop this kind of an uncommon faith?
1. Make Jesus the benchmark of our faith.
We must desire the faith that is in Jesus. In Hebrews 12. 2 We read, “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfector of our faith. For the joy set before Him, He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Jesus is the Author of faith who reached the destination which was expected of Him. He had an uncommon faith which was priceless. Faith, hope and love are the spiritual riches that we must have. When the dead were brought to Jesus, He said they were sleeping. He resurrected them to life because of His uncommon faith. No one has ever done what Jesus has done.
2.Saturate yourselves with the Word Of God
We must deliberately fill ourselves with the Word.
It is written in Romans 10.17 “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.”
Faith arises when we hear the Word. It is not merely reading it but we must meditate on it .i.e. chew it. As we keep thinking about the Word, it gets digested and it becomes part of us. Just as faith comes from hearing, unbelief also comes through hearing. Negative news affects us and drains our faith and creates in us unbelief. If the Word is activated in us, we will receive uncommon faith.
God has not called us to think and live in the earthly realm like a hen instead to soar high above the worldly things like an eagle thinking heavenly things.
Colossians 3.1 tells us “Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
Earth and all its things are temporary.
After 40 days of fasting, Jesus is tempted by Satan. In Matthew 4.4, Jesus replies to this temptation by saying; “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God”
We live because of the Word and our spiritual life must be fuelled with the energy that comes from meditating the Word. It creates in us a faith that helps us grow spiritually.
