This Can Be Your Story - Part 2
Joseph’s life is mentioned in the Bible right from Genesis chapter 37 to chapter 50. In Genesis 38, Joseph’s older brother Judah is mentioned.
If we take the characters in the Bible, there are many who are warriors or heroes of the word. David, Samson, Elijah, Moses are all heroes even for the Sunday school children. God used many mighty men. Take Solomon for instance, he was wealthy, wise and a mighty man.
But then when you go to Matthew 11:11 God says that John the baptist is the greatest among all. ‘Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.’
Why is that? Did John have the wisdom like Solomon had? Did John do miracles? Did he heal the sick? No.
He did what he was assigned to do and what no man had done. He preached about baptism, he baptised Jesus and even the roman soldiers came to him to be baptised.
He was a prophet. He worked in the prophetic office.
Coming back to Joseph, compared to the other characters in the Bible, he had a faultless character.
We can divide Joseph’s life into three phases :
He was the favourite of his father. But at the same time he was rejected as a slave. But later on he rose up to a position of a ruler and lived in the palace of the king.
This can be your story too. You might be rejected at many places, among your family or friends or in your workplace. But remember there will come a time when you are exalted to a higher position.
Joseph’s story is a story of dreams. He had two dreams. Joseph’s life was mainly filled with his dreams, interpreting others dreams and fulfilling them.
God has never used anyone without a dream. We need to receive dreams from God. What does that mean? Not dreams of a snake coming to bite you or a dog chasing you.
Dreams from God do not necessarily mean what you see while you sleep. But it's the vision that you have from God.
Joseph’s life - see dreams, interpret them and step into their fulfilment.
Genesis 37:2-3 ‘This is the account of Jacob’s family line.
Joseph, a young man of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives, and he brought their father a bad report about them. Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made an ornate robe for him.’
Joseph brought a bad report of his brothers to his father. Have you ever done that? Have you reported the wrongs of others to your teacher or boss?
Joseph was born to Jacob in his old age and because of which Jacob loved Joseph all the more. This is when things started getting dangerous. Love has expression. Love has languages. How did Jacob express his love for Joseph?
One of the ways he expressed his love was by making a multi-colored robe for Joseph.
There are many reasons as to why Jacob loved him the most. Joseph never joined with his brothers to do sinful acts. He always stayed away. He was a separate personality. He was not a part of the wickedness that his brothers did.
Joseph was the odd one out. His father noticed this and loved him. His brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them and they started to hate him.
Genesis 37:4 ‘When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.’
This is something that all the parents need to learn and understand. You need to treat your children the same. Is it easy? No.
But if you remember the story of Jacob and Esau. Because Isaac and Rebecca did not love them both equally, it destroyed their family and Esau wanted to kill Jacob all his life. Jacob had to escape.
However much you try to love your children equally, there will still be complaints. It is not what I’m talking about. Parents should not purposefully treat their children unequally.
