Let The Life Flow Through You

We saw in the past few days that sometimes, it is our thoughts and our negative feelings that limit God’s move in our lives. We easily forget God’s benefits in our life. Psalm 78 and 106 talk about this. 

Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Eternal life in Christ is God’s free gift to us. Romans 7 talks about how we tried to please God with the Law and miserably failed. 

Romans 8:2 “because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

This eternal life we receive as a gift also sets us free from the law of sin and death. This is the natural spiritual life or the spontaneous fountain of the Holy Spirit that comes inside when we accept Christ. 
Even though God created us with this life, because we have always relied on our flesh (intellect/ will power) and depended on the world, we unknowingly go back to it and live in the religious lifestyle we were used to earlier and dry up.

Jeremiah 2:13 “This is what the Lord says: “What fault did your ancestors find in me, that they strayed so far from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves. “My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”

But when we accept Jesus, this life appears in us. We are born again in Spirit, but we are still living in our flesh when our mind is not renewed with the Word. This is the reason why we don’t experience any change after being born again. We forsake the Holy Spirit’s spring of living water and dig our own cisterns with our ability. We have to consciously pursue God’s will so that we do not back slide to our worldly ways. 

Why do some of us backslide?

1. We were never really born again in the first place
2. Even though we may be born again, we neglect the life that God has given us by not using it  and fall back into depending on the flesh

Like a GPS guides us to our final destination by leading us at each turn and rerouting us when we miss a turn, the Holy Spirit wants to lead us too.
Romans 8.14 says “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.”
The voice of the Holy Spirit leads us. He reroutes us when we go wrong. But sometimes we don’t listen to His voice and choose to ignore His directions and try to live with our ability. 

Breathing comes naturally to us because we have life in us. We don’t have to pray for it and struggle to breathe. It is only when we are struck by disease that breathing becomes difficult. 
In the same way, God’s life in us means that we naturally follow His will and His ways. But when we rely on our flesh and fall into sin, it becomes difficult to live naturally in the life that God gives. 

For example we can read the Bible in two ways:

1. Because we feel like we have to because someone asked us to our expects us to
2. Because there is a natural desire in us that draws us to it. This is the leading of the Holy Spirit.  

When the Law of Spirit and life works in us, it defeats the Law of sin and death.
