Count Yourselves Alive To God
These days, we've been discussing how to experience the freshness of being a new creation in Christ throughout the journey of our salvation. You should have a revelation about the finished work of Christ on the Cross and then count yourselves dead to sin.
The cross deals with our sinful nature and the blood of Jesus deals with our sins. Jesus became the atoning sacrifice for the sins of the entire mankind, He was crucified once for all and we too have been crucified with Christ only once; and we've become a new creation once and for all through Jesus’ resurrection which also happened only once. Jesus was crucified only once, buried only once and raised to life only once and therefore it’s a one time event in our personal lives because we weren’t crucified just by ourselves but with Christ.
Romans 6:8-10 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
The above verse is applicable to our lives in the spirit realm, and though we all have to exit this planet breathing our last, death no longer has mastery over our spirits. Just as Christ is dead to sin, we too are dead to sin. And all you need to do is count yourselves dead to sin and then alive unto God.
We’re not only dead to sin, but also alive to God
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Many people focus on the death part, but the fact that we are alive to God is all the more significant. God is not looking for dead people, but for those who carry the life of Christ in them. Many people focus more on the sin, while we ought to be focusing on the life that we have in Christ. We live by faith in the Son of God, who loved us and gave Himself for us. God is looking for living people and not dead people. Our focus must be on our resurrected life. Though resurrection is a one time event, the resurrected life continues forever. Jesus is an ever living Savior and we’re also living forever with Him. We have a union with the resurrected Christ. This revelation brings a transformation in our lives.
1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.
God’s seed is God’s Word and the Word should dwell in us by memorizing, meditating and making it an integral part of our thoughts.
1 John 1:8-10 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him to be a liar and His Word is not in us. We may think the two verses are contradictory, but let me make it clear for you.
As per 1 John 3:9, those who are born of God do not become incapable of sinning, rather the tendency to sin is been taken away, and since the Word of God which is alive and active is dwelling in us; the Word will give us good counsel, sanctify us and guide us in the right path. Moreover, we’ve become the address of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 6:19). Christ in us cannot sin.
Also, we need to understand that we’re not completely free from the presence of sin because only our spirits have been redeemed and our bodies haven’t been redeemed yet. That is why every child of God still struggles with sin in their day-to-day life.
However, as we become one with Christ the Savior, we’re no longer labeled sinners, but saints. In short, believers don’t become incapable of sinning while living in this sinful world; but as they receive Christ they are labeled as saints and not as sinners.
