Persistent Faith
It is written in the Bible that the righteous shall live by faith alone. This was something that shook up the whole of Christianity. When a German priest and theologian, Martin Luther read this verse from the book of Romans it changed his life radically. He worked to bring people to the truth of the Word.
When you come close to God
Today we are going to look into persistent faith - a faith that does not let go.
Let us read from Luke 18:1-7
The Parable of the Persistent Widow
(1) Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. (2) He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. (3) And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
(4) “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, (5) yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
(6) And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. (7) And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?
The biggest enemy of prayer is boredom!
This boredom happens to all of us. Even the most spiritually active people feel tired and bored with their prayers. They might be facing discouragement from praying and not having prayers answered as they wished. So, they continue praying but not with the same fervour. Only if you are able to overcome this tiredness, will we be able to see some historical acts of God.
The Word confirms and affirms that God will give us the solutions to all our problems in His time! God does not work according to the timing of the world, not the kronos time but the kairos time. God does not work looking at our watch and calendars. In Romans 4:18 we read how Abraham got his prayer answered in 26 years!
Romans 4:18-22 reads
(18) Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”[a] (19) Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. (20) Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, (21) being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. (22) This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.”
Do not let your faith weaken when your prayers are not answered right away! Strengthen yourselves and approach God! God is always waiting for us.
When you come close to God
- We approach God just as we are. We don’t need makeup because he sees through us and knows all our motives.
- We need to approach God with blind faith.
- Shameless faith.
- Amazing faith.
