Take Care Of Your Life
We have seen how much care dog owners give for their precious dog. They feed, bathe, and take the dog everywhere they go or hand them over to a doggy day care. They make sure all of their needs are met. Similarly, we take great care of our children, our properties, our health and so on, with utmost diligence. But the real question is - do you take care of your life?
Most people do not take care of their own lives. They look after their clothes, their shoes, their car, make sure their house is well maintained, and do everything but do not care for their own life, especially their spiritual life.
Luke 21:34 says “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.
Imagine your final exams are coming, this is a fact that you know at the beginning of your academic year. You keep pushing studying and preparing for the final exams claiming that you have time. And in the end, the student ends up doing last minute preparation for the final exam and does not score as well as if he/she had just studied from the start!
In this same manner, we should not approach the second coming of Jesus with this attitude! We should not be laid back and relaxed, thinking that we have more time to straighten up our lives. He can come at any second!
This scriptural passage is a warning for us from God! We need to take care of our hearts, our spiritual life, our prayer life, our church life, in short - TAKE CARE OF YOUR LIFE!
We should not be concerned about living our lives according to the trends and fashions of this world. There is another culture and civilisation set for us by the heavenly government. We should live according to what God has set out for us, not what man has set in this world.
Romans 12:2 says Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
We need to keep in mind that all the things of this world will remain here when the time comes. We cannot take any of the earthly possessions that we give so much care toward with us in eternity. So, what will become of our lives then?
Ephesians 4:17-32
(17) So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.
Over here ‘Gentiles’ refer to those who are not saved and who have not received Christ into their lives. They live their lives not surrendering to the will of God in their lives. The scripture tells us very strongly not to live like them! Their lives are based on the way they think which is useless in the eyes of God.
We are chosen by God to live a life different to those of the world!
We are called to live in His Holiness!
(18) They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.
Their thinking is not holy and filled with light, it is filled with darkness. They live a life disconnected from God.
(19) Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.
People who live like this will continue to live regardless of where they are, be it the slums, or a luxurious high-rise. They live according to their wishes and passions in life. Their spiritual lives are drowned.
(20) That, however, is not the way of life you learned
The lifestyle of a child of God is set apart from those living according to the standards of the world. God has called us to follow the path that He has set out for us and a completely different life. As children of God, we should be aware of this difference!
(21) when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. (22) You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; (23) to be made new in the attitude of your minds; (24) and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
We are called to be like God, to live in righteousness and truth. This is how God created each of us!
We are not called to live an ordinary life!
(25) Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. (26) “In your anger do not sin”[a]: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, (27) and do not give the devil a foothold. (28) Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.
(29) Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (30) And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. (31) Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. (32) Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
So, what do we need to do as His children?
