Are You Following The Right Gospel?
There are a lot of differences between the New and the Old Testament. To understand the difference between the two would be a good place to start for anyone wanting to learn the Word and understand the scriptures. The laws of the Old Testament are not applicable to us anymore. In the Old Testament, the concept of mercy was still relevant, but grace becomes a lot more explicit in the New Testament.
John 1:17 says, ‘For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.’
The law was given to us by Moses, however grace and truth through Jesus Christ. In the Old Testament, grace and truth were sparsely revealed. However in the New Testament, it was fully revealed and explicitly displayed. Grace and truth were freely given and brought into this world through Jesus Christ.
In John 14:6, says, ‘Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’
Galatians 1:6-9 says, ‘6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!’
Paul is saying this in a very stern way. Paul says, God called you to live in his grace and it’s astonishing to see you detach yourself from it and chase behind another gospel. There are several gospels that are written in poetic and prose form which are not spoken or written by Jesus or his disciples. These literary copies and theories were available even in the time of Paul. It often mentioned Jesus, but strayed away from the truth in its essence. Such gospels are no gospel at all, as this leads to confusion and a lack of clarity for many. Anybody who preaches the gospel that is not the word of God, and not from the Bible will be cursed.
I believe through this message many, who are weighed down by false gospels will be unburdened and saved. I was born into a Christian-religious household. However, even though we went to church, we never knew the scriptures or the Bible.
Paul is talking about a different gospel, a gospel that is based on the word of God. In the Book of Galatians, Paul re-asserts how Jesus Christ died for us in the cross of Calvary and did everything for our salvation.
However, even after Jesus’ great sacrifice, several people clung onto the commandments of Moses, claiming that while salvation comes from Jesus, if we truly want to be saved we have to follow the laws. The Pharisees and others who held onto these archaic laws, essentially made the law itself a religion. A lot of you today might be burdened by the fear of going to hell, through your actions. A constant taunting thought is sometimes placed in you by Satan. The gospel that removes such thoughts and frees you, is the gospel of grace. Jesus died for you and for your sins once and for all on the Cross of Calvary and that essentially frees us from the constant taunting thought of going to hell. We are often made to believe that it is our acts that decide whether we go to hell or heaven. But the truth is we are never qualified to go to heaven through our acts. We are qualified to go to heaven only by believing in Jesus Christ and his finished work on the cross of Calvary.
