What Kind Of House Are You Building?
In the previous sessions we learned about multiple contrasts that Jesus spoke of like the life gate and death gate, false prophets and true prophets, and true followers and false followers of Christ.
It is not enough to just call on the name of the Lord to become a true follower. True prophets are ones that God Himself calls- the Bible tells us that we can judge them on the basis of their fruits! It is important to only learn what the Bible teaches, it is easy to be led astray by false teachings.
Matthew 7:24-27 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Jesus asserts that anyone that hears the Word and obeys it, is a wise man who builds his house on rock. Even though rain and wind beats against this house, it stands strong because of its foundation. But anyone that does not obey the Word is a foolish man whose house is built on sand! When the same situations of wind and water beat against this house, it falls down.
When we hear and obey the Word like the wise man in this parable, we also build a strong foundation for our lives. This is why it is important to not only hear the correct Word of God but also to actually put it into practice in our lives.
For example, many of us read about baptism in the Bible, but how many of us take the step to obey?
We also read about being baptised in the Holy Spirit, even Jesus needed this! It was when Jesus prayed and breathed over his disciples that they received the Holy Spirit. If they needed it, how much more do we?
The Bible also talks about the renewal of our mind in the book of Romans. But how many of us practice these?
A wise builder builds His life on Jesus with a strong foundation. These are people of action. Many of us think that it is simply to believe, but the Bible says that faith without deeds is dead. So it is important that we put the Word into practice in our lives like a wise man who builds his house on a rock.
