The Blessings From The Cross
The monument of God’s love for us is the cross . Jesus, the king of Glory went through the most heinous death by His creation and God’s response to this was not His wrath, it was forgiveness and love. No monument of love can match up to this.
Isaiah 53 details what Jesus went through for us. He did not even look like a person at the end of it. No movie or painting of the cross can do justice to what Jesus did. He was despised and rejected and became a man of suffering. Men considered Him in low esteem.
Matthew quotes this in Matthew 8.17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.”
He took up our pain and suffering and was pierced for our sins as he took up our punishment. And by His stripes, we are healed.
1 Peter 2:24
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
All of our sins were put on Jesus and He was oppressed for our sake.
Isaiah 53: 7-9
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 8 By oppression and judgement he was taken away. Yet who of his generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was punished.9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.
Up to verse 12, the passion of Christ is described. This was written even before the Messiah was born! It was seen through his prophetic lens.
Isaiah 54:1
“Sing, barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the Lord.
From chapter 54, it is full of joy and celebration! This describes all the joy that follows the sacrifice of Jesus, the sufferings of the servant . This is the joy we should have in our lives! The sufferings Jesus went through in Chapter 52 and 53 ends in blessings for us.
Those who are barren and desolate, they will be joyful in the Lord. This is spoken to the old Testament church who went through sufferings that there would be joy for the New Testament church. We will enjoy the fruits of all the sufferings that Jesus went through for us.
Isaiah 54:2-5
“Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. 3 For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities 4 “Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.
You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood. 5 For your Maker is your husband— the Lord Almighty is his name— the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; He is called the God of all the earth.”
God is telling us that we must enlarge our tents as our children are going to be so many. He would remove our barrenness.
Do not be afraid, you will not be put to shame! Because the Lord is your husband and redeemer, you will not be humiliated! Christian life is not a religion but something that we are expected to enjoy.
The cross we see in Isaiah 52 and 53 is salvation and power to those who believe! The revelation of the cross is the source of everything we experience today.
