The Display of God’s Love
We see in Romans 8 that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ. However we can separate ourselves from the love of God when we complain, doubt or question God’s love. The Holy Spirit has given the love of God to us as a fruit. Even when we can’t feel God’s love, His love is in us.
The book of Isaiah is the Gospel of the Old Testament. It speaks of the good news. There are 66 chapters in the book of Isaiah. The Bible has 66 books.
If we study the book of Isaiah analytically, it can be divided into two just like the Old and the New Testament. In the first section, God is confronting the people, speaking out strongly against their sin. In the second section, God is comforting the people. From Isaiah chapter 40 onwards, we see a sudden change.
From Genesis to Malachi, we see the old and from Matthew, it’s a sudden change, the new. This kind of stark difference can be seen from Isaiah chapter 40.
Isaiah 40:1
Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
Isaiah 40:3
A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
In the New Testament, we see this God who comforts His people. The prophetic voice for that is what we see in Isaiah 40 and after.
Isaiah 40:4-5
Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
The Old Testament books are covered as though with a veil. They are not completely revealed. When we turn to the Lord, the veil is removed.
From Isaiah chapter 52, we see some powerful revelations about Jesus.
Isaiah 52:1
Awake, awake, Zion, clothe yourself with strength! Put on your garments of splendor, Jerusalem, the holy city.
Zion in the Old Testament shows Israel, today it represents the believers.
Isaiah 52:7
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
Before the coming of Christ, Isaiah prophesied the coming of the good news.
Isaiah 52:9-10
Burst into songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord will lay bare his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.
Isaiah talks about a great redemption that is coming and tells the people to burst into song. A redemption that the whole earth will see.
Isaiah 52:11
Depart, depart, go out from there! Touch no unclean thing! Come out from it and be pure, you who carry the articles of the Lord’s house.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18
Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” 17 Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” 18 And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
We must separate ourselves from the ways of the world and follow Christ and His teachings rather than what we see around us.
Isaiah 52:13
See, my servant will act wisely; he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.
Throughout Isaiah, we read about the servant of God. This is what we see in the gospel of Mark, a servant with the face of a bull, one side of the ministry and character of our Lord Jesus.
Isaiah 52:14
Just as there were many who were appalled at him— his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form marred beyond human likeness
For our sake, Jesus was disfigured so that He no longer looked human.
Isaiah 53 prophecies about the suffering of Jesus.
Isaiah 53:1
Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
There was a divine exchange on the cross. Jesus took our sin, curse, sickness, shame and gave us His blessing, healing, freedom.
God loved us so much that He gave us His Son and everything else along with Him.
