Do You Want To Be God’s Friend?
Oftentimes at church we sing the song ‘Oh taste and see that the Lord is good, for He tastes like honey in the rock’. What do these lines tell us? We need to taste Him to really know Him.
1 John 1:1
‘That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.’
The author speaks from his experience. He saw, heard and touched Jesus.
1 John 1:2
‘The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.’
Only those who have seen it can testify. The verse above speaks about eternal life. Not about the life that ends in a box in the grave but that which goes beyond that.
John the apostle was filled with the Word of God. He often would speak about his experience and testimonies with Jesus.
1 John 1:3-4
‘We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete.’
All of us have 24 hrs in a day. How do you spend your day? Every minute is important. Who you spend it with is important. It determines your future.
The people around you can greatly influence you, the way you talk and behave.
Now imagine if you spend your time with God every hour of the day! You need to have a divine fellowship and friends.
John wants us too to enjoy God’s presence.
John 15:14
‘You are my friends if you do what I command.’
Let me ask you this. If The Prime Minister of India is your close friend how would you feel? People's attitude towards you would also change. Now consider this - the Creator, the one who made you wants to be your friend. He is ready to be your friend if you obey his commands.
Friendship with God starts by obeying him.
Genesis 22:12
‘“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”’
All of us have really close friends with whom we share our secrets. In the same way, when we become His friend, he will reveal many things to us.
John 15:15
‘I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.’
God is taking you to another level, where you are his friend.
Summary
God wants to be your friend. He wants to share the secrets in his heart with you. You need to make the decision. Are you ready to partner with Him?
