Sowing and Reaping: Part 5
God’s Kingdom works on the principle of sowing and reaping. He created living things with seeds of their own kind that they may reproduce and increase. In Genesis 8.22, God promised that as long as earth endures, there would be seedtime and harvest time. Ecclesiastes 3. 2 says that God has instituted a time to sow and a time to reap.
Psalm 126.6 says; “Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.”
This is true with God’s Word too, we can expect a joyous harvest when we sow the seeds of the Word soaked in tears.
Mark 4.11-20 is a parable spoken by Jesus which teaches us that the kingdom of God works on the principle of sowing and reaping. The seed is sown in the night and without the sower doing anything or knowing anything, the seed sprouts on its own. The Sower doesn’t know the technical or scientific aspect of it, he only knows that he can expect a harvest.
There are four stages in this process:
2 Corinthians 9.10,11;
“Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”
God has given each one of us a collection of seeds. Anything we have in our hand is a seed. When God gives us seeds of blessings, one portion is to consume and the other portion is to sow again. For example, when we receive money in our hands, a part of it is to use and part of it is to invest productively. A farmer keeps some of his harvest for his personal use and to sell and the rest to sow again.
What are the seeds that God has included in the “collection of seeds” that He gives us?
“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”
When the seed of the Word is sown into our hearts, it gives us life.
John 6. 63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.
We also see in John 3.5-8, that a person is born again when he receives the Word through the Holy Spirit.
In Matthew 13.19 - 23, Jesus explains the parable of the seed and the Sower, where He says that the seed is the Word and the field is the human heart. The Word sprouts in us through the Holy Spirit.
It is our responsibility not only to consume the Word for our spiritual growth, but also sow it into the hearts of many others. When we speak the Word to others or even send the videos and messages of the Word to others, we are sowing.
The Sower is the Son of Man, Jesus Christ. He sowed 12 disciples first. It increased to 120 on Pentecost day and then later to 3000 and now uncountable. It has spread to many nations. This is the potential which is inside a seed. A believer speaks to another person and it goes on. The seed has to be sown into villages , towns , cities , nations……..
Revelation 7.9
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.
We have a great responsibility in our hands to sow.
The remaining seeds will be spoken in the next episode.
