Living an Unshakable Life
Our Lord is the “Rock of Ages” who continues to help us and supports us and often leaves us in awe of his mercy. From our part, we need to pray and worship Him in a way that shakes the foundations of the world. He is our Healer who shakes off of us any diseases or injuries or illnesses in our body.
1 Peter 2:6 says, ‘For in Scripture it says: 'See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.'
Those who trust in Him will never be put to shame. However, you need a strong foundation in God. We need a foundation to stand upon, to build a structure upon.
In the verse above, God the Father says that He is laying a precious cornerstone that He picked in Zion. Zion symbolises God’s people, Israel etc in the Old Testament and Church in the New Testament. God should be our precious cornerstone of anything that we do, because anybody who has built a foundation on Him or believed in Him will never be put to shame.
I remember a brother in Christ telling me that, if you add the sum of 2024 it is 8 and according to Biblical numerology 8 is the number of Christ. This year is the “Year of Christ” and He is our precious cornerstone. The progress of our life starts with Christ. When we build a house, before we start building the structure, we lay the cornerstone. This act of placing the cornerstone in the building of a house is prayed over and celebrated by everyone, even though this is merely a foundational stone and several others will be placed over it. This stone will not be seen by anyone later after the building is built.
In the same way our Christ should be our cornerstone, the first stone that is laid. He is invisible but when this first stone who is Christ, is laid by us in our life, heaven rejoices. When Christ is our cornerstone, He is unshakable, He is the Lord of all ages and our foundation is strong. We must make a decision that our entire life should depend on Him.
Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 3:10-14, ‘10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.’
The day we got saved, the day we invited Jesus into our lives, we placed Christ as our cornerstone. Only a wise man can build a structure as it’s a complex process. So as wise men and women of God, we must pay heed and ensure that Christ is the cornerstone that holds the foundation in our lives. Apostle Paul lived a life centred around Christ; for Him to live was Christ and to die was gain ( Philippians 1. 21).
Now that we have Christ as our cornerstone it is important that we build on this foundation and in this process of building we are allowed to use any number of materials. As we live our lives the strength of our foundation will be revealed in our actions, our words and reactions because as Christians there will always be tests often engulfed in fire. And if we survive this, as a builder of our life, we will be rewarded.
