Restoration Is Coming Your Way

1 Peter 5:5-11
In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.
Peter who walked with Jesus is saying that the younger ones should submit themselves to their elders. We must clothe ourselves with humility.
Apostle Peter in his letter echoes what Apostle James wrote in his letter about humility. God opposes the proud but shows favour to the humble.
1 Peter 5:6
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
If we are submitted to God in humility, He exalts us in His time.
1 Peter 5:10
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
Even if we suffer for a little while, God Himself will strengthen and restore us. This is our hope and God’s promise for us and we can be comforted that at the end of the trial there is restoration.
When we are obedient to God’s Word and humble ourselves, we find favour in God’s sight and receive His blessings.
The blessings of humility:
1) He will restore us
2) He will make us strong
3) He will make us firm
4) He will establish us
5) He will exalt us
God will demolish the works of the proud. Anything without God will fail.
You cannot exalt yourself. It is God who exalts us in His time. Without waiting for someone else to humble us, let us humble ourselves.
