God Will Work According To Your Need
God wants all of us to prosper and do well. However, as things currently stand, the earth is not functioning as per His perfect will as Satan still controls the world system. But there will come a time when heaven will be established on earth in its fullness.
In Matthew 5,6,7, Jesus teaches us to pray for His Kingdom to come and for His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. We see a part of this fulfilled when the Holy Spirit came upon people. Jesus went through persecutions and suffering when he was on earth, in fact the world gave Him a wooden cross.
After the sermon on the mount, people were filled with Word, but their stomachs were hungry! This was when Jesus multiplied the bread and fish and fed the multitudes. We studied this in the last episode and learnt that we should have faith in the works of Jesus. The disciples did not have this at the time. Jesus used them to distribute the food to increase their faith.
We too, should have faith in what Jesus can do and who He is. He is able to meet our needs! The disciples’ solution to the need of the hour was to send the people away. But we need to have faith in what God can do. Unbelief can breed fear, complaining, grumbling etc.
2 Corinthians 8:9
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
We should have this revelation that Jesus completed His work on the cross and that we can walk in His abundance now. Spiritually, all our blessings are connected to the completed work of Christ on the Cross. The same way we received salvation is the way we will receive our blessings too. The ‘source’ and the ‘way’ are the same.
Secondly, God works according to our needs. In the sermon on the mount, the people were first filled with the Word of God. In our busy, hi-tech world, people have no time to sit in the presence of the Lord and fill themselves with the Word.
Colossians 3:16 says Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly
At the mountain, the people were filled spiritually. They had a physical need which was great but the means (resources) were small. He can make our meagre resources into a mega blessing.
If we give God even our small resources (time, talents etc), he can use them to meet our needs, however big they are. Their need was huge and genuine. The solution Jesus gave was not by shifting places or changing your route. The solution is in trusting God. Even when there are no natural means, God can provide supernaturally. God fed Elijah supernaturally when there was no natural way available. God can work through both natural and supernatural ways in your life. We should acknowledge God as our ultimate provider and believe in Him.
God first revealed Himself as a Healer; “Jehovah Rapha”.
Exodus 15:26 He said, “If you listen carefully to the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.”
After having revealed Himself as their healer by healing all the sick people who came to Him, Jesus then filled them with His Word. God then also reveals Himself as their provider, “Jehovah Jireh”! Doctor Jesus is also our Provider.
It is important to know that Jesus did not die only for our sins, but also for our sickness and poverty! A need is never a problem. It is not a sin. A need becomes a problem when there are no natural resources to fulfil it. When there is no food or water to satisfy a person who is hungry or thirsty, it is a problem which can even become fatal. But no matter the gravity of our need, God is able to provide!
