Abundant Blessings
When Jesus came to this world, He started by proclamations of blessing. During His ministry, He emphasized on who would be blessed. Even as He ascended to heaven, He raised His hands and blessed His disciples and it is in this posture that He was taken to heaven. His ascension pictures a scene of world wide blessings being poured on al people.
It is those who do not leave the faith because of persecutions that are blessed.
The Word also clearly says that those who receive the revelation of Jesus from the Father are blessed.
Matthew 16.17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
In Ephesians 1:17,18, Paul prays that we receive such a revelation from the Father: “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people”.
In 1 Corinthians 2:2, we read about Paul’s policy of life. He had no other interest other than to know Christ. “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”
In Matthew 25:34, Jesus who is King blesses those who takes care of His church through various charitable acts: “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world”
In Matthew 19.13-15, Jesus blesses children and also asks us to do the same : “But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” 15 And He laid His hands on them and departed from there.”
In Luke 1.45, Mary, the mother of Jesus is called “blessed” because she believed what she heard from the Lord: “Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.”
In Luke 11:28 He (Jesus) replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it”
The Word of God is available to many through various media but it is only those who hear the Word of God and obey it are blessed.
Jesus illustrated this with the parable of two builders in Matthew 7. 24 -26 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
The one who built his spiritual life with time and patience by obeying the Word, stood the trials of life. This is the difference between those who only listened to the Word and those who listen and obey the Word. Such people who built their life based on the Word are blessed.
JOHN 20.29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed”
These were the words of Jesus to Thomas who refused to believe that Jesus was resurrected until he saw it. Those who believe without seeing Jesus are blessed. Here, we see two types of believers; the ones who believe the Word of God without seeing miracles or having supernatural experiences and the ones who believe only if they see the miracles etc with their own eyes.
Romans 15:29 I know that when I come to you, I will come in the full measure of the blessing of Christ
Here Paul is saying that he will come to visit the people of Rome in the full measure of the blessings of Christ.
In 2 Corinthians 9:8, Paul speaks to the Corinth Church, “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
God’s plans are to bring a child of God to the perfect fulfillment of His rich blessings. We don’t receive it because we don’t know it fully and so live in poverty. God is able and he also desires to bless us abundantly in all areas.
James 1:12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
There is a blessing for those who persevere in all trials and problems of life. Every person living on earth has troubles and struggles in their life.
James 5.11 Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.
James writes about Job’s life who was blessed because he persevered amidst trials and said in Job 1.21, “And he said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD.”
