Sustaining Grace
Just like a coin has two sides, grace has two faces-
1 Peter 1:3-5 ‘3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.’
Do you remember the time you became saved? The overwhelming joy that you had? The first love you had for your Saviour?
In that one act of receiving Jesus as your saviour, your sins were forgiven and you received salvation.
We who have fallen to the sins of this world, and spoken against our God, we who have committed uncountable sins; God has forgiven all of it and he has filled us with his love, called us as his sons and daughters.
Sustaining grace
It is the sustaining power to preserve salvation. It is the extension of his grace. Baptism of the Holy Spirit, fruit of the Holy Spirit, wisdom, knowledge, revelations of the Bible are all included in this. It is by grace we live.
1 Corinthians 15:10 ‘ But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.’
The big question that many of us have after we have become saved is, how do we sustain this till the end? How do we lead a sinless and holy life?
This is also the reason why many hesitate to get baptised or even go to church. They lack confidence in themselves. They worry of falling prey to sin again and again.
Here is the good news for you! Sustaining grace is enough for all your needs. First seek the kingdom of God and all that you require will be given to you.
